more photos from my second Amazon trek...

a stache of green plantains that will serve as meals for the week.  One of the lame meals  was spaghetti noodles with tomato sauce and a side of plantain

my bed is to the left

these bugs hang out on the shady side of anything, like these twigs, to keep cool until  our motorboat disturbs their paradise
This is one of the critters who managed to jump on board

Commando is so awesome. Our boat came up to this obstacle of fresh growth.  He said that these plants were not here two weeks before. I just assumed that we would just turn around. Instead, he asks for the machete and starts hacking a path through.

of course, there are living things in the plants that we are hacking through

many spiders starting jumping on board, but they were more scared of us than of them

finally out of the thick

Commando just darts his arm into the river and pulls out a baby alligator

a fish from the river is cut up and used as bait for fish

lunch from the river

sometimes there only way to get through is to lift the boat over obstacles...

then there are times when you need to go under stuff

It was dry season during this time, which explains why there were so many obstacles along the river. Many fallen trees clutter the riverbed.

Along one of the smaller rivers, I was able to stand in the middle and still be only chest deep. During our trek, we would go 100 meters in and find trees that would be submerged during the rainy season.

stuff found during a hike at night...

it's still hot during night

this is called a capybara and was being chased by village kids
