Guatape - another weekend getaway

I had the day off and decided to go to a town called Guatape. It is just a weekend getaway, but I went on my day off- Monday. Consequently, the town was empty. It allowed me to get this sweet room with a view in a hostel just outside of the main part of town.

and a bonus: the hostel had puppies!  This is the dinnertime feeding frenzy...

These are a couple examples of the trash cans that line the main drag of town

The town's most notable architecture feature is the paintings at the base of almost every building and home.

this homeowner really loves Little Lulu... but not her friend, Tubby

The main attraction is the big rock that overlooks Guatape. It is a five kilometer walk from town and boasts 740 steps to get to the top. Once there, it is panoramic views of the area.

Once at the top, the whole valley can be seen.  The original town of Guatape is located beneath this water.  A dam was erected for electricity and the town moved everything to its present location.
