back in Quito, time to start making moves

With the turn of the New Year, it is now time for me to start making my way to Brazil to celebrate Mardi Gras somewhere. Rio and Sao Paolo are out of the question because I waited too long to make any reservations for lodging. So the plan will be to just get into the country and roam around until I find a vacancy for me.

Today I made  the journey from the coast at Bahía back to the Andes Mountains in Quito. A painless eight hour bus ride, except for this sight as we came up along a turn in the mountain...  bottles of broken beer!

I missed out on photos of the front half of the truck, but it spilled half its cargo onto the road as he was turning into the mountain. I wonder how many times this happens, not just to beer, but all bottled beverages are shipped in this manner-  cases are stacked atop each other, with at least one side of the storage area being open air. What holds everything together is the tightness of the tie (maybe string, maybe wire, maybe cable) and the weight of the cases and beverages keeping everything down.
