DAY 3 in the Galapagos: Santiago Island, Sullivan Bay and Bartholomew Island

After another ten hour boat ride overnight, we arrived at Santiago Island for an early meeting with some penguins.  I was amazed that there were penguins living in warm weather.

and apparently the warm weather makes them a little randy...

as well as makes them wanna take a dip in the water.  Oh it would be nice to swim with these guys, but that won't happen for a few days...

After the penguins, we landed on Santiago Island. The black ground is cooled lava from a volcan on another island.

this is the end of one of the lava flows...

After walking around and seeing our fill of lava flow, we went snorkling along the coastline. Snorkling in these waters was really cold and I was too ignorant to wear a wetsuit.  Next time I will...

After lunch, we took the dingy to the other side of this protruding rock to see some volcanic cones and climb the hill for a view of  Bartholomew Island.

this is an underwater crater that is just below the surface of the water

After this hike, we went snorkling along the beach on the right side of this neck, just below the hill that we climbed

this time, I donned a wetsuit, which made the world of difference...
