This is from a few months ago, after my bike race in Ollantaytambo. The town was celebrating their patron saint for a whole week and it culminated with a day of bullfighting. I thought it would be a bull harassing drunk men for three hours, but it was bull-on-bull action. People would bring their bull to the field and tie them to the ground. For about two hours, while everyone is gathering around, the bulls have a chance to survey the crowd and make very loud screams, probably to scare the competition and probably also to voice their displeasure of being exploited for drunk people as they crowd around them.
The start of a fight would have two bulls stand face to face as their owners unleash them. At this point, eventually one makes a move or else run away from the confrontation. Below is the only match that had blood. But it was rather a minor scene. the horns drew the blood, but eventually one bull walked away... maybe after five minutes. The other times, the bulls would head butt each other, but then one runs away.
Here is another match. There was no crowd control. People were allowed to wander around the field and get up close. However, as the bulls moved around, the crowd would back away very quickly.
