random photos 

I just got back from a week on the edge of Manu National Park... on the edge of the Amazon.  There´s lotsa photos to sort through, and it´s gonna take a while to write an entry about this. So here´s some random stuff that has been accumulating in the past two months...

so as they built the road, they decided to leave this big rock in the middle. The one good reason is to prevent cars from driving down this road, I guess.  But the road is only wide enough for Smart Cars to pass through.

Trash- There aren´t many trash cans in the city and the only way for citizens to dispose of their trash it to leave trash bags on various street corners late in the middle of the night or very, very early in the morning. The only problem is that stray dogs don´t sleep and will tear through the bags in search for food. One day I woke up early and saw that the trash pile next to my apartment was taller than the people whose job it is to throw the trash into trucks. They work as a team, with people recycling the plastic and glass bottles and another group that will take the trash and bag it into a bigger trash bag. 

I would have stopped into this place to try the pizza, but was on my way to another dinner spot.

The Elvis on the driver´s dashboard kept me laughing for a solid five minutes when I first saw him in action. His hips and legs are separated from his torso and shimmies and sways as the car moves. If anyone finds this, I will buy it from you... whenever I buy a car.

Any idea what the ingredient ´Melissa´ is?

this hotel is located at the edge of town... but not really the touristy part of town.

this sign is on the road leading out of the eastern part of Cusco.  To the best of my skills, it translates to "Do not run, your family waits for you" or "Do not run, your family hopes for you"  huh?
